Manuals and Installation Instructions
What is a MOD?
A MOD is a MODification of the original Panzer Elite. It changes and adds files to the installation to create a new experience. This can be simply new tanks or even new textures, scenarios, sounds, particle effects or campaigns.
As original files can be changed by a MOD we included a program called "Mod Enabler" which creates backups of files changed or replaced. This program can activate and deactive one or more mods, so your original Installation can be restored by a simple mouseclick. (Note: the snow & night mod of Erik and Lars Lenort uses its own mod enabler due to its complexity.)
If you ever have problems with MODs, deactivating them or your Panzer Elite stops working due to MOD installation then refer to the troubleshooting guide below.
MOD Installation
To use a MOD is a two step process. First you need to install the mod, then you need to activate it. In the MOD section you will find installation links which you need to click to install. It behaves like links in the internet, when you click it a requester will appear. Choose "Open from current location" and it will execute. After you confirmed the installation by pressing ok the MOD will install itself into the MOD folder of your Panzer Elite installation. (note: if you choose to "save" the mod instead of opening it from the current location you can save the installation file and execute it from there)
Don't worry, if you got enough disk space free and a correct installed Panzer Elite then it is a simple process. We recommend not to install all mods at first, only try one until you are comfortable using them.
MOD Activation
To activate a mod you need to start the Mod Enabler. This program can be launched with the start menu where your other shortcuts for Panzer Elite are located. If you don't use shortcuts use the windows explorer and navigate to your Panzer Elite installation and locate the mod_enabler.exe
On the left side of the window you will see installed mods. Those mods are installed but NOT activated. To see more information about that mod simply click on its name. The information now should include the name, a short feature description, a clickable (!) link of the mod's homepage and general information.
To activate it press the activate button. Depending on the size of the mod it might take some time. As soon as the mod is installed its name should appear on the right side of the window as "activated". You can install more than one mod this way, but keep in mind that not all mods work with each other. IMPORTANT: Exit the mod enabler before you enable or disable further mods or start Panzer Elite!
To deactivate a mod simply reverse the process and press the deactivate button. Notice: This will only deactivate the LAST mod installed. This prevents that multiple mods installed mess up the original Panzer Elite installation. So if you ever installed mods in the wrong order you need to deactivate them one by one and activate them again in the right order.
MOD Information
On the MOD page you should find readme's of the mods authors which explain what the mod offers. Most mods offer new tanks for you to play or new textures. Some mods offer new scenarios or new forces like the British or Russians. Only some of them offer the campaign graphics menu you are used by Panzer Elite. Please refer to the authors notes or homepage to get more information. If you need information or got questions to the mod author please use our forum on www.panzerelite.com to ask them in our mods section.
Troubleshooting
The worst thing which can happen is that you need to reinstall Panzer Elite. This is a rare case which usually shows trouble with a mod or its files and only happens when the mod enabler fails to restore the original Panzer Elite.
Uninstall Panzer Elite or delete the folder where you installed the game and reinstall.
To ask questions about a problem with the mod itself please ask the author on our forums. We try our best to support our communities work.
Manuals
The historcial manual was shortened on some versions of the rerelease due to the limits of the packaging. The complete original manual you can find here as a "pdf". A pdf is a file format which needs a program called Acrobat Reader to be displayed. If you dont have it you can find it on the Special Edition CD below.
